Preston Street Union 13 October –
7 November

As part of his residency at Spacex artist and independent curator Trevor Pitt is setting up Preston Street Union – PSU an affiliation of artists from in and around Exeter that will come together over a five week period to explore collaboration as a strategy for artists making things and making things happen. PSU will draw on and extend elements from Pitt’s previous project Cannon Hill Art School, and reference the work of influential artist and educator Josef Albers.

PSU is for visual artists:

  • At any stage of their development, regardless of age or experience (although must be over 18)
  • Looking to explore and expand the boundaries of their work & experience
  • Interested in collaborating with other artists
  • Working in any art form

Please note we only have 15 places. Booking essential:

We recommend a £25 contribution for the whole course or £5 per session. All contributions will go towards the continuation of PSU activities. The continuation of PSU will be discussed with the group in the final session.

During the residency PSU will meet at Spacex on:

  • Tuesdays 6.30 – 8.30pm 13, 20, 27 October, 3 November
  • The last session is on Saturday 7 November from 10.30am – 3pm.

The five sessions convened by Trevor Pitt will explore collaborative ways of making and making things happen via artist talks, screenings, Skype talks, group crits and workshops. The final session will give PSU associates the chance to take over the Spacex building and present the result of a collaborative project devised at the start of the programme.

Trevor has invited artists that he has previously collaborated with to be guest speakers, Juneau Projects, Clare Thornton, Cathy Wade and Emily Warner will also be leading activities.

This is a great opportunity for a community of artists from the region to come together and learn together, to meet and hear about the work of fellow artists in and around Exeter.

PSU associates will also have access to Cannon Art School lectures and library that will be installed at Spacex during the residency 6 October to 6 November.
