The Big Draw / Clay Tablet Making
On 30th October the atrium at Spacex was transformed into a ‘clay tablet room’. Secret messages and pictorial stories were scribed into soft wet clay by enthusiastic kids of all ages. This ancient process, first carried out 5000 years ago by Sumerian scribes, bears similarities to mark making methods used in John Court’s The Work Between the Lines, his first UK solo exhibition in the UK.
The event, attended by over 30 children, proved very popular. In addition to small individual tablets, a large collaborative piece was made from locally dug gold coloured clay. This piece, created as a memento of the event, records the mark of every child who attended.
